Germany warns Turkey after arrest of activist

Germany has summoned the Turkish ambassador

in Berlin and threatened to suspend European Union aid payments after

the arrest of six human rights activists including a German citizen,

CGTN reports.

Berlin’s patience appears to be

running out. German rights activist Peter Steudtner’s arrest is the

third of a German national in Turkey this year on terror-related

charges.

Chancellor Angela Merkel had already

condemned what Berlin sees as another phase in a post-coup crackdown,

that’s turned into an extensive purge of dissent.

After summoning Turkey’s ambassador, her government confirms it’s now considering limiting aid money.

Guy Henderson reported that pulling back aid could have a knock-on, in

return. Turkey has been stopping tens of thousands of refugees reaching

Europe.
