The president of pro-India Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and leader of main opposition Mehbooba Mufti Tuesday said Indian-controlled Kashmir was a colony of India.

"We're already a colony, what can we become further," Mufti said in the region's lawmaking body that is currently in session. "Do we've to function like a colony or provide justice to Kashmiris, do we have to be like a colony or act like the representatives of people?"The PDP leader said since 2009, she felt government was victimizing people.

"It is shame that while the government was busy with the last month's Zubin Mehta's show, four innocent youth were killed near the Gagran camp in Shopian," she said.Mufti said police had revealed that among the four youth, three had no militant links while the fourth one was a Bihari. The PDP president accused government of preparing ground for giving a clean chit to the guilty troops."

On September 20, Police said the three youth were relatives of militants while the fourth one had been booked under the Public Safety Act," she said. "Today, DG CRPF said the three were associates of a Pakistani militant.

"The PDP leader was also sarcastic about possibility of bringing the former Indian army chief Gen V K Singh to stand in the region's lawmaking house and answer queries of legislators over his allegations that all ministers receive money from the Indian army for carrying out different activities.

"If it happens, it will be a historic day but I've my doubts that you can do that, " she said. "However, I will love to see it happen."The PDP president said local government had learnt to deal with Kashmiris knowing that nothing needs to be done but wait to see them tire out.

"Now Delhi too has realized that Kashmiris tire out after protests," she said.Mufti said the local government lacked credibility and asked Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to put down his foot for bringing accountability."If today you say sky is sky and earth is earth, people will doubt," she said. "Why are you expressing helplessness? If Tamil Nadu and Punjab can ask for the clemency of the Rajiv Gandhi and Indira Gandhi's killers, why couldn't we have passed a resolution on the demand of return of Afzal Guru's body?"She said if the fake gunfights in Gujarat could be probed why not Machil and Pathribal fake encounters."Why does national interest become criminal interest in Jammu and Kashmir ( Indian-controlled Kashmir)," Mufti said.

"At least 120 people were killed during 2010 and if even half of that would have been killed in India in communal violence, the entire country would have been shaken."A separatist movement challenging New Delhi's rule is going on in Indian-controlled Kashmir since 1989.

Militant groups are engaged in a guerrilla war with Indian troops across the restive region.
