The report released by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) cannot be used as a "pass" for Japan's discharge of nuclear wastewater into the ocean, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Tuesday.

Wang made the remarks at a daily press briefing in response to queries on Japan's discharge plans, adding that the IAEA report is controversial, as experts who participated in the assessment expressed different opinions.

Wang said the report has limitations, partiality in relevant conclusions and fails to address the international community's concerns over Japan's discharge plans.
