He was a security guard, and he is now planning to establish a university in ten years.

“Every one was created for a reason”, Zhang Juncheng said.

Zhang Juncheng, 41 years old, is from the prefecture-level city of Changzhi, north China’s Shanxi province. He used to be a security guard of Peking University, one of top Chinese universities, and won his reputation as “the first security guard of Peking University” because he was eager to learn.

In 1995, he passed the Adult College Entrance Exam and was admitted by the law department of Pecking University (Specialist). Now, he serves as the principal of a secondary vocational school in Changzhi. He draws up an ambitious plan to establish the first private university in Changzhi in the next ten years.

“Every one was created for a reason”, said Zhang Juncheng in the speech delivered to 200 students who are in their sophomore year and going to take internships. As the principal, he insists on delivering all training classes in person before they leave the school to do internships.

Zhang’s school now has more than 800 students who have graduated from junior schools. Those students are supposed to continue their studies, but fail to further their study in high schools. So they choose Zhang’s school to learn some majors such as marketing and auto repairing.

Zhang Juncheng manages his students in the military style, which is inspired by his experience as a security guard.

When it comes to his security-guard days, Zhang said, he still cherishes great helps from professors of the Peking University, though he was merely a security guard at that time.

“We had to put out the light by 10 pm in our security dormitory, after that I could only turn on my flashlight to study in the bedclothes. My team leader Wang Guiming brought an end to that situation, he agreed to prolong the bedtime.”

Zhang’s then life was all about standing guard and learning, “I feel like a hero to start my life as a security guard” said Zhang.

Zhang Juncheng’s story is not a solo.

Zhang Yonghui, 43 years old , began as a security guard in the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China before earning the MPA degree.

Gan Xiangwei was a security guard, meanwhile, a student of Peking University. His story was reported by the People’s Daily and awarded as the most influential people in education in 2012.

Zi Li, who dropped out of the school and got a job as a security guard to raise his family, has determined to get back to college. He made it to the Tianjin University.

When you look at a person, any person, remember that everyone has a story. Everyone has gone through something that has changed them.
