MANILA,June.30(APD )-The Philippines' Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and Japan’s National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) signed an agreement to further strengthen their relations through high-quality education to promote and sustain development goals at an academic conference.
In a statement released today, the BSP said the recently-concluded conference took place at the Philippine International Convention Center coincided with the celebration of the 70th year of central banking in the country, the 20th year of GRIPS and 40th year of anniversary of the Graduate School of Policy Science (GSPS), the predecessor of GRIPS.
Among the topics discussed by GRIPS faculty and alumni were digital innovation, as pathway to inclusive growth, state-building experience of the then central bank of the Philippines, value-added from intellectual property derived export revenues in the United States as well as the role of financial literacy in achieving financial inclusion.
During the said occasion, a posthumous award was conferred on the late BSP Governor Nestor A. Espenilla, Jr. for his outstanding achievements as a GRIPS graduate who rose from the ranks to become Governor in 2017.
The BSP said there are 206 GRIPS/GSPS graduates from the Philippines, 16 of whom are from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. Over the past two years, GRIPS has organized alumni chapters in Thailand and Indonesia.
