The Brussels-based North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) confirmed a case of novel coronavirus infection in its headquarters on Monday morning, saying a staff member who had come back from a holiday in northern Italy tested positive.

The staff member is currently at home in self-isolation and his immediate work colleagues have been working from home, NATO said in a statement.

The transatlantic alliance, originated in the Cold War era, said it has suspended certain staff travel, encouraged staff to work from home, and suspended group visits to its headquarters in Brussels.
