Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping at Mamallapuram in south India, as the two will begin their second informal summit on Friday.
Mahabalipuram, is around 50 kilometres from Chennai and has many historical sites. President Xi arrived at Chennai airport in the afternoon.
Border confidence-building measures (CBMs) are expected to be discussed in the informal summit. Trade could also be a significant topic of discussion.
Prime Miniser Modi could also update President Xi about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, where security restrictions have been imposed if the topic is bought up during the summit discussions.
According to a eport published in the Indian Express, “PM Modi is likely to speak about the recent developments in Jammu and Kashmir only if it is raised by Xi.”
“He is likely to explain the reasons and nuances behind Delhi’s decision while conveying that Beijing has to be “sensitive” to India’s core concerns,” it further said.
The two leaders could also discuss the problem of terrorism during the informal summit.
