The Chinese government has vowed that "all types of infringements on property rights will be rigorously dealt with in accordance with law" as part of the country's overall direction for economic and social development in 2018.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang made the remarks on Monday in his annual government work report to lawmakers during the opening meeting of the first session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, which is held in Beijing from March 5 to 20.

He added that all property rights dispute cases will also be reviewed and settled in accordance with law.

"We will strengthen the protection of intellectual property, and enforce a punitive compensation system for intellectual property rights infringements," he said.
