China's economic recovery gathered pace in the third quarter of 2020, with GDP growth in July-September registering at 4.9 percent from a year earlier, boosted by rebound in consumer spending, investment and exports, official data showed Monday.The growth was slower than the median 5.2-percent forecast by AFP's survey and Reuters' poll, and missed expectation of 5.3-percent growth by Bloomberg.In the first nine months, the country's economy rebounded to 0.7 percent year-on-year. The economy returned to modest growth at 3.2 percent in April-June from a year earlier and reverted from the first contraction on record at 6.8 percent in the first quarter this year.

In the first three quarters, the country's added value of major industrial enterprises grew 1.2 percent from a year earlier. Industrial output increased 6.9 percent in September on an annual basis, 1.3 percentage points higher than the rise in August. Retail sales grew 3.3 percent year-on-year in September, versus a 0.5-percent growth in August. However, retail sales in January-September declined 7.2 percent in annual terms.Fixed-asset investment rose 0.8 percent year-on-year in the first nine months, following a 0.3-percent dip in January-August.
