Italians don masks of a different kind for canceled Carnival

Despite cancellation due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Carnival in Venice, Italy was still being celebrated by a few revelers in St. Mark’s Square Tuesday. The colorful festival, which was due to start Tuesday, usually draws international crowds in the millions.

This year’s festivities have been put on hold as Italy works to contain a second surge of coronavirus. Italy has recorded 2,644,707 cases of the virus and 91,580 deaths.
