A driver was taken into custody on Thursday after U.S. Secret Service agents stopped a suspicious vehicle trying to enter the White House illegally, authorities said.

"An unauthorized vehicle attempted to gain entry to the White House complex by following another vehicle that was lawfully entering at an external complex checkpoint," the Secret Service tweeted. "The vehicle was stopped and the individual was immediately taken into custody."

The vehicle was reportedly a black Mercedes-Benz SUV with a Texas license plate.

It was unclear whether agents had discovered anything suspicious inside it.

The SUV has accumulated 1,355 U.S. dollars in parking violations from streets around the White House since Oct. 10, according to a tweet by ABC7 reporter Sam Sweeney.
