Indonesia to hold fashion carnival to promote 18th Asiad

JAKARTA, April 19 (APD) - Indonesia’s East Java province city of Jember was scheduled to resume its annual landmark reputable fashion carnival which would highlight traditions of Asian countries taking part in the upcoming 18th Asian Games.

The organizer of Jember Fashion Carnival (JFC) has set a theme of “Asia Light” in the upcoming JFC event slated for August 7 to 12, to showcase modified costumes inspired by traditions of several countries taking part in Asiad.

JFC President Dynand Fariz said that among the costumes paraded in the carnival would take themes of Bian Lian from China, Babylonia Empire from Iraq, Kujang from Indonesia, Ottoman Empire from Turkey, Silla from South Korea and Shogun from Japan.

“The theme used in the upcoming JFC, Asia Light, has a strong association with

Asiad theme of ‘Energy of Asia’. The JFC would become an effective event to further promote the largest Asian sports event,” Dynand said the JFC launching event held in the Tourism Ministry premises here on Tuesday.

He added that those Asian tradition-inspired costumes would be showcased by at least 2,500 persons throughout the parade.

Besides the costume parade, the JFC would be featured with International Exhibition, Pets Carnival, International Conference,

Kids Carnival,

Rhythm Artwear Carnival and the Wonderful Archipelago Carnival Indonesia.

The JFC would enter its 17 years this year. Throughout those years, costumes displayed in the carnival have earned international recognitions for the category of

Best National Costumes several pageants.

The JFC was awarded as the nation’s best carnival event last year by the tourism

ministry.

Speaking in his remarks in the launching event, Indonesia Tourism Ministry said costumes showcased in the carnival have consistently demonstrated high creativity of those working in national fashion business.

“It is terrific. I had never doubted the organizing of JFC so far. All things showcased in the carnival have strong originality aspect. The fashion aspect was also very strong in national costume,” the minister said.

The 18th Asiad was slated from August 18 to September 2 in Indonesia’s two cities of Jakarta and Palembang. Some 11,000 athletes from 45 Asian countries and regions would take part in the Asia’s largest sports event held once every 4 years.
