1 dead, 3 hurt in S. Philippine blast

A blast rocked Monday night in the southern Philippine province of Lanao del Sur, leaving one dead and three others wounded, police said Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred in the township of Butig at 9 p.m. local time, two hours after the end of the midterm election, local police commander Papa Macapaag said.

The explosion caused by M-203 grenade launcher took place outside a residential compound, Macapaag told a local radio.

"We are still investigating the motive and those behind the attack. The incident affected the transportation of machines used in the elections," he said.
