China is ready to make joint efforts with the US to ensure a successful visit by US President Donald Trump, State Councilor Yang Jiechi said to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson during a meeting in Washington, DC.
Trump is expected to visit China later in the year, at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Yang said it is in the interest of both countries and the international community to maintain healthy relations.
During the meeting, Tillerson said the US is willing to work with China to develop bilateral relations and to enhance cooperation in culture, cyber security and law enforcement.
