One artist is transforming Lagos, Nigeria's largest city, into a colorful place one wall at a time. And in doing so, he is also changing perceptions of the value of street art.

Okpunkolo Osa is inspired by British graffiti artist Banksy, and the influence of Hip-hop culture can be seen in his work.

His latest project was commissioned by the local government to mark the 50th anniversary of Lagos State.

"I am just a spearheader,” Okpunkolo said.

“The movement is coming, there are a whole lot of people who are inspired

by me and will make the impact. I believe in impacting (my environment) and this is just another opportunity to do that."

Osa's work is attracting attention and, in turn, generating positive conversations about street art.

"What we are seeing now is really nice, but we need to understand the issue of it and why we need it in this country,” a resident told CGTN.

Osa wants more young people to get into serious street art, and not only transform the streets of Lagos, but

also the minds of its people.
