27 officials face punishment over deadly Gansu ultramarathon

Twenty-seven government officials face disciplinary punishment or criminal charges after being held responsible for a deadly ultramarathon race last month, authorities in Gansu Province said on Friday.

Twenty-one people died of hypothermia when extremely cold weather suddenly descended on a government-organized 100-kilometer race on May 22 in China's rugged northwestern province.
