A joint supervisory team has been sent to east China's Shandong Province to oversee a local police investigation into a lawyer's alleged sexual assault of a junior four years ago.

The joint team was sent by the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) and the Ministry of Public Security to supervise the handling of the case involving Bao Yuming, the SPP said Monday in a short statement on its official account on WeChat's new media platform.

Bao, a lawyer who once worked as a chief legal officer at the Yantai-based Jereh Group and non-executive director at ZTE, was accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl four years ago.

The scandal came to light after media reported that new evidence had been submitted by the victim and her lawyer to local police in Zhifu District in Yantai city, Shandong Province.
