Metro train derails near Washington, D.C. with no serious injuries

A metro train derailed Tuesday morning near Washington, D.C. in the eastern U.S. state of Maryland, the authorities said.

No serious injuries were reported.

"Two cars were slightly off the track at the platform," said Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Pete Piringer.

There were no immediate reports of serious injuries, Piringer said.

The authorities are checking passengers for potential injuries, according to local media reports.

The metro train on the Red Line derailed around 11:30 a.m. outside the Silver Spring station, about 10 km away from Washington, D.C., said the reports.

Metro did not immediately release information on why the outbound train derailed.
