Russian major general killed in explosion in Syria

A senior military adviser with the rank of major general was killed after an explosive device went off on the roadside in Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said Tuesday.

The improvised explosive device was detonated at a place 15 km from the city of Deir-ez-Zor as a Russian humanitarian convoy was returning from a mission, the ministry's Zvezda broadcasting service said.

Two other servicemen were injured, it added.
