APD | Ruling party wins Gibraltar elections

**GIBRALTAR, Oct. 18 (APD) - **

Gibraltar ruling party Gibraltar Socialist Labor Party (GSLP) won the general election for the third consecutive term, reinstating Fabian Picardo on Friday as the chief minister in the British overseas territory located in southern tip of Spain.

The GSLP won 52.5 percent votes with the two main opposition parties, Gibraltar Social Democrats (GSD) and Together Gibraltar, received 25.6 percent and 20.5 percent respectively.

In his next term Picardo would face challenge that dealing with effects of the United Kingdom’s departure from the European Union.

Gibraltar’s 34,000 residents have overwhelmingly rejected option to leave the EU. The territory relies heavily on workers who cross the border from Spain, and its companies need access to the EU market.
