Three people were killed, around 50 children abducted and 80 houses burned in an attack by suspected Nigerian Islamic sect Boko Haram militants on Sunday in Tourou, north of Cameroon, an army source told Xinhua over phone.

"The militants attacked Tourou in Mokolo district of Far-North Region bordering Nigeria. Around 50 children between 10-12 years old were abducted. The militants also set 80 houses on fire and took away 150 oxen," the source said.

The attack is a kind of challenge from Boko Haram to the Cameroonian government and the Chadian government who just sent troops to Cameroon to help Cameroon in its fight against the Islamic sect.

The first batch of Chadian troops consists of paratroopers led by a general. They arrived in Maroua, the capital of Far-North Region of Cameroon on Thursday night.

The suspected Boko Haram militants strengthened its attacks in Cameroon. The recent attack on Jan. 12 in Kolofata in Far-North Region left 157 militants killed by the Cameroonian army, but the Cameroonian government said in a statement the casualty from the militants' side is 143. Enditem
