Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official You Quan has stressed efforts to promote ethnic unity and religious harmony to further enhance the cohesion of the Chinese nation.

Efforts should be made to create a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation and uphold the principle that religions in China must be Chinese in orientation, said You, a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, during his investigation and research trip in northwest China's Qinghai Province from Wednesday to Friday.

During the trip, he encouraged people of all ethnic groups to consolidate their achievements in poverty eradication and strive for a better life.

He also called on religious figures to carry forward the fine tradition of loving the country and the religion, consciously resist overseas infiltration and religious extremism, and contribute to local economic development and social harmony.

You stressed the need to strengthen law-based governance of religious affairs and provide guidance to religions so that they can adapt themselves to the socialist society.
