Indonesia jails mastermind of Myanmar embassy bombing plot

South Jakarta district court on Tuesday sentenced a militant to 7.5 years jail term for masterminding bomb plot at Myanmar embassy in the city.

Sigit Indrajit alias Abu Yahya was found guilty of implicating in a terrorist attack in early May last year, presiding judge who goes with single name Hariono said.

Prosecutors have disclosed that the planned attack was aimed at pressuring the government of Myanmar to ramp up effort to end strikes on the Muslim minority of Rohingya.

"Sigit Indrajit alias Abu Yahya is sentenced to seven years and six months jail terms," Hariono said.

"Sigit has been legally and convincingly proven involving in plot for a terrorism act," he said.

Defendant lawyer said that the convict accepted the verdict.

A series of deadly attacks had targeted the Muslim minority in Myanmar since 2012.

Previously, the court has sentencedSigit's accomplice Rokhadi alias Abu Jannah to six years and Ahcmad Taufik alias Ovie for seven years and six months.
