Earlier this week, Ghosn fled Japan where he is facing trial over allegations that he underreported his income during his tenure as a chairman of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. The official, who is a French national of Lebanese origin, escaped to Lebanon.

Lebanese authorities have received a warrant issued by Interpol to arrest former Nissan head Carlos Ghosn, Reuters reported citing a Lebanese judicial source.

The source stated that the warrant, overseen by the Lebanese internal security forces, has not been referred to the judiciary yet.

According to the source, the authorities have not made any decisions regarding the warrant yet.

Carlos Ghosn, a Brazilian-born French billionaire of Lebanese ancestry, was arrested in 2018 in Japan over accusation of false accounting during his chairmanship over the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.

Earlier this week, the official breached his bail conditions and fled Japan, escaping to Lebanon. Ghosn told the media that he had fled injustice and political persecution in Japan.

Meanwhile, Turkish authorities have made seven arrests after launching a probe into Ghosn's escape, which was reportedly made via Istanbul.

French Secretary of State for Economy and Finance Agnès Pannier-Runacher, for her part, said that Paris does not intend to extradite Ghosn should he arrive in France because the country "never extradites its nationals".
