Road traffic crashes killed 38 people and injured 127 others in Cambodia during the three-day travel of Chinese New Year, compared with 21 deaths and 131 injuries in a year earlier, said a National Police report on Wednesday.

"A total of 72 road accidents happened across the country during the celebrations this year, up 9 percent from the 66 accidents in the year before," the report said.

"The main causes of the accidents were speeding, neglect, and drunk driving," it said.

Chinese New Year is not an official holiday in Cambodia, but a majority of the population celebrates the occasion by traveling to their hometowns or going to tourist destinations for leisure.
