WARSAW, Sept. 27 (APD) - The United States giant tech firm Google planned to open a cloud hub in Poland as the firm sees robust sales across Europe, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said on Friday.

The plan underscores the firm’s ambitions to expand Google Cloud network across the European region which Kurian regarded as “big area of focus” for the business.

“We’re actually growing faster in terms of people, customers, revenue here than in any other part of the world,” said Kurian.

Google Cloud currently operates cloud hubs in 6 European regions which are part of its 20 around the world. He said that its new location in Warsaw, Poland will help customers in central and eastern Europe benefit from its cloud services.

Expressing his confidence to seize more market in Europe, Kurian said that enormous consumer demand for cloud computing in Europe has been waiting, particularly in the banking sector. He said that Europeans regard cloud computing as an enabler than a source of risk.

“People here in Europe are really beginning to adopt cloud. At some point, there was a reluctance to adopt cloud. I think now they see the value that the cloud can deliver,” he said.

Cloud computing allows businesses and consumers to store and access data, apps and software over the internet, instead of locally on a hard disk. Cloud regions include infrastructure like data centers.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced last week that the firm is investing some US $3.3 billion to expand its European data centers over the next two years.

Amazon and Microsoft, the two biggest cloud services providers in the world, have also been expanding their network in Europe. Chinese tech giant Alibaba has also opened new data centers in Britain and in Germany.
