Chinese firm to deliver Nigeria's metro by December

Phase one of a rail transit project in Nigeria's Abuja will be commissioned by December, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) said Tuesday.

The rail transit, which costs 823 million US dollars, has a length of 45 kilometers with 12 stations, Project Manager Kong Tao told reporters during a site tour.

The rail links the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to the central business district, he added, noting that the rail features a double-track line of right side running.

It will undergo a test run by November and be commissioned for public use in December, the manager said.

He also said the project, after completion, would generate employment, boost the commercial activities of the host communities and benefit the public.

The second phase of the rail transit project will have a length of 32 kilometers and connect with phase one, according to the website of CCECC.

CCECC will also offer operation service and staff training for Nigeria so Nigeria can ultimately run the rail independently.
