From January 5 to 17, 48 black-faced spoonbills were seen flocking to the Nansha Wetland Park in Guangzhou City, south China's Guangdong Province, where there have been substantial environmental improvements.

The black-faced spoonbill is listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species. It is the second most endangered waterfowl species after the crested ibis in China.
