JAKARTA, Aug. 18 (APD) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo made an arrow shooting on Friday night to commence the countdown to the 18th Asian Games slated to be held in the nation’s capital of Jakarta and South Sumatra province capital of Palembang from August 18 to September 2 next year.

The arrow shooting conducted by the president officially started the digital watches set in Jakarta and Palembang landmark places, reminding people on the conduction of Asian Games in Indonesia next year, themed ** “Energy of Asia”** .

“In the name of God let’s welcome 365 days to the 18th Asian Games in 2018,” the president, who is an archery athlete himself, said prior to the arrow shooting.

The Asian Games countdown events were simultaneously conducted in Jakarta’s landmark square of Monas and Palembang’s sport complex of Jakabaring, organized by Indonesia Asian Games Organizing Committee (INASGOC).

The event in Jakarta was featured with musical performances performed by performers from Asian countries and spectacular attractions including fireworks and thematic formations of flying drones above the Monas landmark square.

The latter attraction got hysterical responses from hundreds of people as it was the first to be seen in the country.

The attraction engaged around 300 drones fitted with lamps, quickly moved to form certain formations in different sport themes that made people gathered in the Monas landmark square mesmerized by the wonderful attraction.

Indonesia is now still progressing various projects related to the 18th Asian Games, among others renovations of sport facilities, construction of new stadiums, dormitory buildings for athletes and transportation infrastructure.

Some 11,000 athletes from 45 Asian countries were expected to take part in the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia next year.

The 18th Asian Games would be the second time for Indonesia to host the sports event after the one in 1962 where Indonesia became the runner up with 77 medals after Japan which seized the most medals of 161.
