Shaanxi holds online marathon event

An online marathon competition where runners submit their individual results is underway in Northwest China's Shaanxi province.

The competition, starting from April 17, features three events - half-marathon, 10km race and 5km race. Runners can take part in the event through the "Shaanxi sports events" Wechat account on China's before May 12.

Runners can upload their results certificated by any running app and running pictures after finishing their races to get the certification and medals for the finishers, organizers told Xinhua on Friday.

So far, 976 people have participated in the competition, among them, 323 have finished their events, according to the Shaanxi Athletic Association.

In nationwide epidemic prevention and control efforts, many marathons in Shaanxi scheduled in the spring have been postponed.

Compared with China's coastal provinces, Shaanxi is less developed. But the province is well known for the passion for marathon running.

On October 20, 2019, more than 30,000 runners from 30 countries and regions took part in the Xi'an International Marathon.
