A section of the Burnett River bank has collapsed due to overnight heavy rain, washing away part of a marine store in Bundaberg in southern state of Queensland, local media reported on Tuesday.

Owner of the Midtown Marina Store Jan Douglas told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) that the incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. (local time) on Tuesday.

"You could hear the creaking and we saw it slowly just topple into the sinkhole," she said.

The State Emergency Service (SES) has received more than 100 calls for help in the past 24 hours, mostly in the southeast for leaking roofs, according to the Australian Associated Press.

The SES had rescued some motorists stranded by flash flooding in parts of the Gold Coast hinterland.
