Pakistan's IT industry advances rapidly in last four years

ISLAMABAD, March 22 (APD) -- Pakistan’s Information Technology industry has exhibited positive growth trends for the last four years and it witnessed 51 percent growth in export earnings, it was learnt from the official data Wednesday.

Pakistan’s IT exports jumped to five billion U.S. dollars during the last year from 3.3 billion U.S. dollar recorded in 2016.

Pakistani officials believe that the IT exports are expected to grow to 6 billion U.S. dollars this year.

Pakistan’s IT industry is growing at a fast pace across different categories. Enterprise software has grown by 17 percent, marketing tech 15 percent, financial services 13 percent, consumer goods nine percent, retail/e-commerce eight percent, professional services eight percent, internet of things/hardware seven percent, health care four percent, media four percent and non-profit by three percent.

Facebook, Amazon and other giants of IT sector are anticipating something huge in the start-up world of Pakistan as evidenced by the huge number of sponsors.

The Pakistani government has also started promoting start-ups by giving three-year exemption from taxes to the start-ups and set up national incubation centers in its five major cities, including Lahore and Islamabad.

At least 134 IT companies got certifications in ISO 9001, ISO 20001 and ISO 27001 helping them to generate IT exports from developed countries.

Managing director of the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) Asim Shahryar Husain said that Pakistan participated in 11 international trade fairs along with 65 IT companies where Pakistani companies were able to generate more than 2,000 leads.
