DPRK holds 'splendid' military parade for 8th Congress of WPK

Kim Jong Un, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), attended a "splendid military parade" at Kim Il Sung Square on Thursday to commemorate the 8th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.

"The world's most powerful weapon, submarine-launch ballistic missiles, entered the square one after another, powerfully demonstrating the might of the revolutionary armed forces," KCNA reported.

Members of the eighth Party central leadership body and commanding officials of the military appeared at the tribune, according to the report.

The parade featured rows of marching soldiers and a range of military hardware, including tanks and rocket launchers.

Kim

was elected as the general secretary of the ruling WPK

at the eighth party congress held several days before. The party also held elections for its Central Committee, a key governing body that includes the powerful politburo.
