Sea-bound, land-bound races go on show in Hong Kong Dragon Boat Carnival

Both sea-bound and land-bound dragon boat races will go on show in the 4th Hong Kong Dragon Boat Carnival in celebration of the Tuen Ng Festival.

The three-day event will last for three days from June 21 to 23, incorporating new elements, with activities both in the sea and on land. Under the limelight is the " Celebrity Bathtub Race" in Victoria Harbor, which will take place on the last day of the carnival. Participants will be Legislative Councilors, artistes, business personalities and representatives from major tourist attractions.

They will form a team of five or six people, with one lady in each team as the drummer, to paddle their way along a 100 meter course in the Victoria Harbor, while also vying for the "Best Costume" award.

Familiar names among the participants include lawmakers Chan Han-pan, Cheung Wah-Feng, singer Lau Ho-lung, Loretta Chow and so on.

For the traditional part of the event, Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races will see over 5,000 dragon boat athletes from 200 teams and 11 countries and region fight for 20 championships.

400 free spectator seats will be set along the Victoria Harbor's waterfront. It is expected to attract more than 215,000 participants, including 51,000 visitors. A maximum of 5.25 million HK dollars from the city's government has been earmarked for this event.
