Britain is expected to have heavy downpours and strong winds in the weekend, with snow and hail possible in parts of the country, the Met Office has said.

According to British weather forecasters, band of rain is heading toward Britain and will hit areas across the country.

On Saturday, rain will spread to western areas overnight, becoming heavy at times across western Scotland, said the Office.

Meanwhile on Sunday, rain, heavy at times, will spread east across Britain, clearing northern and western areas by early afternoon. Then turning colder with wintry showers in the far northwest later, said the Met office on its website.

A possibility of strong, wintry gales could see temperatures plummet causing some hail.

Sunny spells and showers are expected on Monday and Tuesday, with the showers being a wintry mix of rain, hail and snow. Snow will mostly be over high ground in the north.

Tuesday would be particularly blustery to meteorologists, as windy weather could hit next week.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the high single figures, possibly reaching as high as 11 degrees Celsius in London, but it is likely to feel a bit colder due to the winds, local media reported.
