Beijing sees sleet and rapid drop of temperature before Qingming

Since there are meteorological record, snow in April has been noted 12 times, yet no snow occurred in April after 1988 and it is the first time in 30 years.

Light to moderate snow or sleet will continue to hit Beijing, and parts of Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia as well as Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in the following three days, with some areas of Xinjiang likely to see sandstorm.

According to the National Meteorological Center, temperatures in some northern cities, like Taiyuan, Tianjin and Shijiazhuang, may drop by 20 degrees Celsius, with highest temperatures plunging from 30 degrees Celsius to 10 degrees Celsius.

Orange alert warning system has been issued in some regions to remind residents of cold protection.

Traditionally, during China's Qingming Festival, also known as Tomb-Sweeping Day, there will be cold and rainy for a few days and it will see gradual rise in temperatures nationwide after the solar term.
