"Eventhoughemergencymeasuresdonotnecessarilyeliminatethepollution,theycaneffectivelyreducethepeaklevel,"Xuesaid.
Totackletheproblemthisweek,updatesonairpollutionlevelswillbemorefrequent,andinspectionsofpollutingfactorieswillbestrengthened,MinisterofEnvironmentalProtectionChenJiningsaidonSunday.

Whenreturninghome,peopleshouldwashtheirfacesandrinseouttheirmouths.Theyshouldalsoremoveandstoretheircoatstoreducecontaminationindoors,hesaid.
Residentsshouldclosetheirwindowsandminimizeactivitiesthatpolluteindoorair,suchascookingandsmoking,hesaid,addingthatairpurifierscanbeleftontoreducethedensityofharmfulparticlesindoors.
