Fruit train from Vietnam to China goes full steam ahead

A train loaded with 346 tonnes of dragon fruit departed Dong Dang in northern Vietnam and arrived in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Thursday. The fruit will be transported to cities such as Beijing, Zhengzhou, Chongqing and Xi'an across China after inspection and quarantine in a logistics center at Pingxiang port that borders Vietnam.

According to China Railway's Nanning bureau, the Vietnam-China fruit train returned to its regular schedule of two to three trains a week since its first journey on Feb. 25.

As a major land port for fruit trade, Pingxiang processes nearly half of China's imported fruits.

The port expects up to 60,000 tonnes of imported fruits for the year, and more fruit varieties such as longan and lychee.
