Egypt's Sisi says no intention to establish political party

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi reaffirmed on Tuesday that he does not intend to establish a political party to avoid division or polarization, official MENA news agency reported.

"The President reaffirmed his keenness that the state and its institutions would not support any political alliance or party list in the coming parliamentary elections," MENA quoted presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef as saying following Sisi's meeting with representatives of political parties earlier on Tuesday.

Sisi held meetings with leaders of various political parties on Monday and Tuesday for discussions over the political life in Egypt and the upcoming parliamentary elections.

The 2015 parliamentary polls in Egypt, scheduled from March 21 to May 7, represent the final step of the three-stage future roadmap, including presidential elections and a new constitution, outlined by the new military-oriented leadership following the overthrow of former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi.

Some political parties in Egypt complain that a new draft election law, which specifies 80 percent of total 567 seats for individuals, opens the door for wealthy corrupt businessmen and former government figures to use their influence and get into the parliament. Enditem
