COLOMBO, Sept. 25 (APD) -- Sri Lanka is to attend the Interpol General Assembly in China this week, the Police Headquarters said on Monday.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara left the country to participate in the 86th Session of the Interpol General Assembly in China, his office said.

This conference is scheduled to be held from the 26th to 29th of September, 2017 in Beijing, China with the participation of Heads of Police of various countries who hold Interpol membership.

As Interpol’s supreme governing body, the General Assembly meets once a year and takes all the major decisions affecting general policy, the resources needed for international cooperation, working methods, finances and programmes of activities.

It also elects the Organization’s Executive Committee. The Assembly takes decisions by a simple majority in the form of resolutions. Each member country represented has one vote.

The Interpol General Assembly also hosts an exhibition hall, featuring innovative companies which provide technology and services to the international law enforcement community.

It is an exceptional opportunity to network, share knowledge and showcase products to high level representatives from Interpol’s 190 member countries. It is also a unique occasion to develop partnerships with more than 800 senior officials from diverse law enforcement agencies.
