Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in a letter to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi has said Pakistan looks forward to working with India in harmony to resolve all unsettled issues for the benefit of both nations through dialogue, sources said Wednesday.

Nawaz Sharif sent the letter to Modi nearly two weeks after they met in New Delhi on May 27 and had agreed to continue dialogue for resolution of disputes. Modi had invited Nawaz Sharif along with other regional leaders for his swearing-in ceremony on May 26.

The invitation was seen as an important step to narrow down differences between the nuclear neighbors.

As relationship is improving, Nawaz Sharif has taken a further step by sending the letter to Modi to reiterate that Pakistan wants resolution of disputes through peaceful means.

"It is my earnest hope that our endeavors will lay the foundations for a much brighter future of the region," Sharif said in his letter.

"Millions of people are living in poverty in both the countries, who deserve our foremost attention to improve their conditions," he said, adding "in many ways their future is integrated with our common economic destiny and our concerted efforts can lead to their welfare and prosperity."

Nawaz Sharif expressed satisfaction over his recent visit to New Delhi and his meaningful talks with Modi on matters of bilateral and regional interest, and said he hopes the meeting will help open new avenues for moving forwards resolution of outstanding issues.

He expressed gratitude to the Indian prime minister for extending generous hospitality during his visit in the enduring sub-continental traditions.

India had suspended bilateral dialogue with Pakistan in 2008 after the Mumbai attacks that were blamed on a Pakistan-based militant group "Lashkar-e-Tayyeba."

Pakistan has arrested several suspects of the attacks who now face trial for their alleged role in planning the attacks.

India wants Pakistan to intensify trial of the suspects.
