JAKARTA, May 22 (APD) – Triathlon athletes from Australia and Germany seized championing medals after they won in Bintan Triathlon sports event recently held in western Indonesia’s resort island of Bintan, Riau province.

The two professional triathlon athletes, Mark Jensen from Australia and Jennifer Zenker from Germany, scored the fastest time records for men and women groups in the prestigious Olympic Distance category on Saturday.

The category obliges athletes to pass through 1.5 kilometers of swimming, 40 kilometers of cycling and 10 kilometers of running around Bintan’s Nirwana Beach Club, a prominent resort in the island.

Mark Jensen scored 2 hours, 9 minutes and 38 seconds, while Jennifer Zenker scored 2 hours, 13 minutes and 31 seconds respectively in the race.

Remarking the event after he settled the race, Mark said that he was fascinated by the pristine beach in the location that made him able to see the ground of the beach while swimming.

The complete terrains alongside the cycling and running track were also made him able to apply all of his techniques as a professional athlete that eventually rewarded him the championing title.

“This is the best triathlon location I ever experienced in my entire life as a triathlon athlete,” the professional athlete who had won triathlon sports event in other places added.

The 2017 Bintan Triathlon was the 13th of its kind that ever been held in the location. It served as an exercising event for professional athletes prior to long distance World Triathlon Corporation (WTC)-organized Ironman 70.3 event slated in August this year in the same place.

The 2-day sports tourism event ended on Sunday, contending five categories for professionals and non-professional athletes. More than 1,300 people from 37 countries and regions took part in the event organized by the Bintan regency.

“This event was part of our efforts to boost up foreign visitor arrivals here,” Bintan Regent Apri Sujadi said.

The regency has set target to welcome 500,000 foreign visitors’ arrival this year, he added.

The annual sport event is essential for Bintan as 45 percent revenue of the regency, which is close to Singapore, was generated from tourism sector, he said.
