APD | Qatar gears up for FIFA World Cup 2022

With a little over three years from the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, preparations for the tournament’s first visit to the Middle East and Arab world has shifted to high gear.

The launch of the Official Emblem FIFA World Cup 2022 was beamed onto buildings in Qatar and major cities around the world at 20:22 local time Tuesday, September was the latest milestone in preparations to host one of the biggest and most prestigious sporting events in the world.

After winning the right to host the tournament almost nine years ago, Qatar has accomplished innovations for the event.

Qatar will host the most compact FIFA World Cup in modern history as the longest distance between venues will be 55 kilometers which means fans will be able to attend more than one match per day during the early stages of the tournament.

The competitions will be held in November and December which augurs well for players and fans to the average temperature of 24°C along with Qatar’s global central location, prime-time television could be accessed by more than four billion people.

They have also launched two FIFA-compliant stadiums with the extensive redevelopment, Khalifa International Stadium was inaugurated in May 2017 while Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah Khor City, which was built from scratch, was inaugurated earlier this year. Both stadiums have innovative cooling technology for the players and the fans.

Six other venues are in the final stages of construction while three others will be inaugurated well ahead of the tournament which will begin on Monday, November 21, 2022.

The Steering Committee said they will see to it their legacy programs launched recently will ensure Qatar and the region benefits from the hosting of the tournament long after the final whistle goes on December 18,2022.

In its statement, Qatar said the workers’ health and safety remain the country’s top priority. They have development Workers Welfare Standards to ensure the well-being, safety, security and dignity of all workers engaged in Qatar 2022 projects.
