32 prosecuted for rioting in Hong Kong

Hong Kong police said Thursday that 32 people participating in two riots last year have been prosecuted for rioting and other offenses.

While 18 suspects aged between 13 and 41 were arrested near Sham Shui Po Police Station after they gathered illegally, disrupted traffic and attacked police in Aug. 29, another group of 14 suspects were arrested on Nov. 18 during the occupation of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

The two groups of defendants will be taken to the court on June 16 and May 18 respectively.

As of Thursday morning, 8,337 people have been arrested for offenses related to social unrest, with 1,448 involved in riots and 581 having been prosecuted for rioting.
