General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nguyen Phu Trong said here on Thursday that"in order to realize targets of the second half and the whole year 2016, the party, people and army should keep striving to seek effective solutions to current pressing issues."

Trong made the remark at the closing ceremony of the third plenary of the 12th Central Committee of the CPV (CPVCC) which opened on Monday, reported Vietnam's state-run news agency VNA.

The party chief also urged to implement three strategic breakthroughs, restructure state-owned enterprises (SOEs), handle bad debts and ensure public debt safety as well as speed up the fight against corruption, waste and bureaucracy among others.

During the four-day meeting, the 12th CPVCC decided such issues including organizational structure and introduction of personnel for senior positions at state agencies for the 2016-2021 tenure.

They decided to continue introducing to the new National Assembly (NA) the positions of state president, prime minister, national assembly chairman and other leadership seats that were introduced by voting or approved during the previous session in March this year.

During the first session of the 14th NA scheduled to convene in late July, the NA Standing Committee and state leaders will be re- elected.
