Youth were majority of Angola's new infections over past two months

Children and youth accounted for the majority of Angolans that contracted COVID-19 in the past two months, the country's health ministry has revealed.

The ministry attributes the development to the reopening of schools in the southern African country.

The ministry also revealed that in the same period, women between the ages of 40 and 49 were also heavily infected.

By Saturday, Angola had reported 26,652 COVID-19 infections with 596 deaths.

The country has had a weekly average of 200 new positive cases and is fighting to avoid further rise in this figure.

Angola is currently undertaking a mass vaccination drive targeting people considered to be at high risk, including healthcare workers, the elderly and people with underlying conditions.
