The summer solstice is here in the Northern Hemisphere, the day when the sun travels through sky to its highest point, aligning almost directly to the North Pole, creating the longest hours of daylight.

Many cultures have celebrations to honor the importance of the sun to human beings, and around the world people came out to welcome the first day of summer.

From sun-salutations in the streets of New York, to a gathering at the Stonehenge rock formation in England, which aligns perfectly with the sun’s movement on both the summer and winter solstices, people came out to pay tribute to the giant star that lights and heats the planet.
