Four out of 10 televisions sold on online shopping malls in the United States this year were manufactured by South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics Co., a report showed Thursday.

Samsung Electronics, the world's top TV maker, retained its top spot for the January-September period, based on online sales with a 39.9-percent market share, according to the report by research firm 1010 data.

Its smaller South Korean rival LG Electronics Inc. came third with an 11.1-percent market share, making a combined 51-percent share of the online market of the world's biggest economy for the two companies.

Vizio of the U.S. came in second with a 17.5-percent share, followed by China-based TCL with 4.5 percent, the report showed.

The report said that the U.S. online TV market is growing with sales peaking during the holiday season in November and December.

Samsung holds the top spot and, along with LG, most likely benefits from integrating smart TVs with other smart-connected home devices, the report said.
