At least 2 Russian tourists killed in bus accident in N. India

At least two Russian tourists were killed, one went missing and several others seriously injured when a vehicle plunged into a river in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand on Tuesday, said police.

The tourists were going to Gangotri in northern Uttarakhand, when their bus fell off the road at Bhagori village in Uttarkashi district and plunged into Bhagirathi river.

An earlier report by local media said 13 tourists were killed on the spot.

While two were confirmed killed and nine others got injured, one is still missing. Among the injured, eight were women.

The accident happened as the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The injured were immediately taken to hospital in state capital Dehradun where the condition of six of them was stated to be critical.

Bodies of two Russians, one of them a woman, have been recovered while one of the passengers was missing, said police.

The incident occurred two days after over 20 students got drowned in a river in neighboring Himachal Pradesh.

Senior officials have reached the spot and rescue operation is underway.
