For over 30 years, Li Zhongqin, a glaciologist, has been monitoring traces of global warming and other environmental changes at the No. 1 Glacier at the Tianshan Mountains in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. According to Li, since 1962, when the monitoring first started, 20 percent of the glacier has melted due to increased global carbon emissions and greenhouse gases.
